Tom Ballenger

Coach Ballenger has been the head coach of our BBA MCBL College Eagles since 2018. In addition to his role as the College Eagles Head Coach skipper, Coach Ballenger is also the pitching coach at local high school powerhouse, St. John’s College High School.

Coach Ballenger is a 2002 graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School, where he pitched for the Stags from 1998-2002, helping them win a WCAC championship his senior year. He then moved on to pitch at UMBC from 2002-2006.

Coach Ballenger’s coaching career began at Bishop McNamara High School in 2007 under Maryland Hall of Famer Larry Prange. He coached the pitchers at McNamara from 2007-2014 and helped the Mustangs to back-to-back WCAC Tournament Final appearances in 2012 and 2013.

From 2014-2017, Ballenger coached in the Stars Showcase organization, leading them to multiple tournament championships including a bid to the WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, FL. Ballenger headed back to DeMatha in 2017 as the varsity pitching coach, helping the Stags to three straight WCAC Finals appearances.

During his three full seasons with SJC, the Cadets have posted a 1.93 ERA and a 2.8:1 strikeout-to-walk ration. He has mentored 13 pitchers who have gone on to play at the collegiate level during this time.

Over the last four summers, Coach Ballenger has coached the BBA MCBL College Eagles. They finished the 2023 season tied for 2nd place in the MCBL. Coach Ballenger has been with BBA since 2018 coaching at all different levels.

Coach Ballenger is also a husband to Michelle, and father of 6: Gloria, Cormac, Rory, Oona Maeve, Meara, and Shepherd. Welcome back, Coach!
